Lucchio, the hilltop village that clings to the rock beneath its ruined fortress, traditionally holds its Sagra della Castagna (chestnut festival) on the last Sunday of October. In 2026 that falls on Sunday 25 October.

What to expect
Going by previous editions, the day usually includes:
Food stalls from midday with roast chestnuts, necci (chestnut-flour crêpes), castagnaccio, fritters and ribollita
A set chestnut-themed lunch (booking was recommended in past years)
A guided walk to the Rocca di Lucchio and through the village
Music in the church of San Pietro in the afternoon
Getting there
Lucchio sits high above the Lima valley in the comune of Bagni di Lucca. The road up is narrow and parking in the village is limited, so arrive early.

Ghosts, witches, musicians and street artists take over the historic centre of Borgo a Mozzano, the town just below Bagni di Lucca. The street festival is free; the new Vicolo Oscuro (“Dark Alley”) in Via delle Logge is a separate ticketed attraction for over-16s.
